What Have We Done So Far for the children
to reverse Childhood Obesity,
Childhood Diabetes, Childhood Depression ……?

Since We as adults set the example,
What have we done for ourselves lately, for them to see, to avoid Health Epidemics?

 Is it human nature to know there’s a Serious Crisis and ‘Do Business As Usual’?

‘What do we do now’,  is a poignantly asked question by many many of our  brothers & sisters around the world. My answer to the question, which I’m certain is shared by many,  is to expand our  knowledge in order to help ourselves and others. Skepticism, Fear,  usaully come from not having the facts. FEAR = False Evidence Appearing Real.     We can do business as usual and nothing changes, or: 1. seek  out  creative solutions, 2. make lifestyle changes, & 3. have fun doing it!  There are solutions that offer all three pursuits. The requirement is to research the freely given information, ask questions, get the facts, and make an informed choice. 

But first, it is again an honor to include the First Lady’s thoughts on the epidemic of Childhood Obesity.

  Yes, the current epidemics and how they effect our future, are very serious!  Is, to do nothing, on a personal and national  level, an option??  Of course NOT!  There are creative solutions!

Let’s Move!
Campaign to Combat Childhood Obesity.

On February 9, 2010, First Lady Michelle Obama,  announced  at a  White House ceremony, the launch of the ‘Let’s Move!’ campaign to end childhood obesity in the United States, an epidemic she said is costly and a threat to national security. The First Lady stated that , “I have set a goal to solve the problem of childhood obesity within a generation… “  She states that  ”Our kids did not do this to themselves… ”  “Our kids don’t decide what’s served to them at school or whether there’s time for gym classes or recess.

” “Our kids don’t choose to make food products with tons of sugar and sodium in super-sized portions, and then to have those products marketed to them everywhere they turn.”    The point she makes is very significant, saying that,  ”Those extra pounds put kids at a greater risk of developing a host of debilitating and costly diseases, including type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.” 

What an enormous task!  It must be our great  hope and our prayers,   that she will receive the necessary cooperation greatly deserved from all of the government agencies and officials  involved.  

She makes a very direct and important statement to All Parents: “…. no matter how much they beg for pizza, fries and candy, ultimately, they are not, and should not, be the ones calling the shots at dinnertime”    We must all work together to make this happen for the sake of the children.

Haven’t We All Heard the Saying, ‘You Are What you Eat’?

Says It this Way -

“I am what I ate, and I’m frightened!”

The Legendary Bill Cosby states that he set two goals for himself at the age of sixty-five. His second goal was to apply for social security and the first, was to, and I quote,  ”Write a book about a healthy  lifestyle. (And who better than I, one who never had one”).

He completed his first goal in 2003, his book became a New York Times Best Seller!  Its title: ‘ I Am What I Ate…  And I’m Frightened!!!’.

It is an HONOR to include Bill Cosby’s inspiration in
this article on Health Epidemics &  ’Life Style’ Changes..

As my plan for this blog began to take shape, I became very excited and immediately shared with a good friend Cosby’s words ‘I am what I ate, and I’m frightened!’ My friend’s immediate and expected reaction was (you got it) he laughed. This of course is the skill of many great comedians, certainly Cosby, to express something in an amusing way that quickly transcend into words of wisdom!

A Serious Crisis - Many Thousands Are Frightened!

Epidemics of course, do not occur over night.  Health Epidemics are the result of the harmful things that we, i.e. large percentages of the population, consume over time; the accumulation of stuff we put into our bodies that doesn’t provide what the cells and vital organs of the body require to maintain good health. The build-up of harmful chemicals, poisons, toxins, free radicals etc that are absorbed and stored (even negative thoughts) if not reversed, results in the weakening of the body’s immune function. The outcome,  serious diseases! This particularly should be of vital concern for the growth, development, and future of our children!

Toxins Absorbed & Stored.

How often have we heard comments such as: “Oh, I only smoke 2 packs a week”, “I don’t inhale”, “I only drink one soda (sugar laden drinks) a day”,”‘I get drunk only on week-ends”, “The kids eat pepperoni pizza or sloppy joes  only on Sundays - my 2 year old loves pepperoni!”  What are we thinking?! Everything in moderation is what we’ve always been told - great advice of course! 

Two packs of cigarettes per week’  -   add up to many many thousands of cigarettes over time.  Therefore,  1, 5, 10 …  years worth  of poison, absorbed by the organs and tissues of the body! 

It’s all accumulative, whatever we put into our bodies will either provide nutritional benefits or potential  harm. It is estimated that nation wide, on average, 1 person in one year consumes 84 lbs of sugar over and above what is considered as acceptable!!   NO DOUBT similar statistics exist regarding salt, saturated fats, and chemicals used as flavor enhancers, preservatives, dyes, etc ……

The toxic chemicals not only in recreational stuff that we may consume, but also in our food supply, air, & water, as well as the thousands of drugs that are prescribed to cure illnesses (well, we are warned though, of the many harmful side effects, even death!), have been absorbed and stored, causing gradual, on going damage.

The main question being asked more & more everyday is - “What do we do now?” Fortunately this question has also been asked by The First Lady, Michele Obama.  It will be an Honor and Pleasure to include a brief acknowledgment of her work in an upcoming article regarding Childhood Obesity,  titled: ‘What Do We Do Now?‘

Several weeks have passed since the last blog post was served. To our loyal readers and those of you here for the first time, an explanation for the long silence is past due. It’s with great sadness that I inform you that Brannon Hall-Garcia vice-president of Sirromac Enterprises died of Cancer on June 13. Not only did Brannon play a significant part in the creation of the business through his encouragement and tireless support, he was also first and foremost a devoted friend, a best friend of many years.

A Great Passion for Art & Travel

Brannon embraced an insatiable passion for Art & Travel which made our partnership in the creation of Classic Curios Emporium & Classic Lifetime Travel a harmonious match. We shared this love of Art & Travel, making the process of planning and ‘fact finding’ always adventurous and festive. Brannon was very generous with his enthusiasm and knowledge as we visited museums, art galleries, auction houses, and antique shops. To add even more to our inspiration, we attended business seminars and classes to acquire the skills and tools in preparation of launching the business. Ebay University Classes, Trump University Intensive Seminar, The Synergy Marketing Group Summit (now the dynamic organization that provides our travel products through Intele Travel Inc.), plus The ‘First Steps to Success’ a seminar presented by the world renowned Dani Johnson.

‘Who Traveled The World The Most?’

Hours totaling days, over the years, were spent sharing our travel experiences, particularly our love of the exotic, the art of travel, differences of  foreign countries  and their people.  We often enjoyed boasting, focusing on who had traveled the world the most. After much teasing, it was acknowledged that he had been to all the major cities of South America! But I always got the last word by reminding him that, my next trip to Southeast Asia would be my fifth! Then it was time to open the second bottle of wine. By the way, we were in the same ‘ball park’ with great opera houses and concert halls. What Fun!

Art & Travel Renew The Human Spirit!

There is much more that could be said. It is with great celebration that I dedicate this blog post to Brannon who sincerely wanted the business to be a success. His encouraging words will always resound with great depth. His final comment expressed to me about the business was “Don’t Quit. Don’t Quit. Don’t Quit.” There’s so much great stuff to be shared with like-minded people and those who truly desire to learn more about the renewing powers of Art & Travel. A few days later he made the comment that was used to open this blog post….
