The Legendary Bill Cosby states that he set two goals for himself at the age of sixty-five. His second goal was to apply for social security and the first, was to, and I quote, ”Write a book about a healthy lifestyle. (And who better than I, one who never had one”).
He completed his first goal in 2003, his book became a New York Times Best Seller! Its title: ‘ I Am What I Ate… And I’m Frightened!!!’.
It is an HONOR to include Bill Cosby’s inspiration in

As my plan for this blog began to take shape, I became very excited and
immediately shared with a good friend Cosby’s words ‘I am what I ate, and I’m frightened!’ My friend’s immediate and expected reaction was (you got it) he laughed. This of course is the skill of many great comedians, certainly Cosby, to express something in an amusing way that quickly transcend into words of wisdom!
A Serious Crisis - Many Thousands Are Frightened!
The dictionaries define ‘epidemic’ as: a negative condition extremely prevalent; widespread: a widespread disease; a rapid spread or increase in the occurrence of something.
In my words, epidemics of course, do not occur over night. Health Epidemics are the result of the harmful things that we, i.e. large percentages of the population, consume over time; the accumulation of stuff we put into our bodies that doesn’t provide what the cells and vital organs of the body require to maintain good health. The build-up of harmful chemicals, poisons, toxins, free radicals etc that are absorbed and stored (even negative thoughts) if not reversed, results in the weakening of the body’s immune function. The outcome, serious diseases! This particularly should be of vital concern for the growth, development, and future of our children!

How often have we heard comments such as: “Oh, I only smoke 2 packs a week”, “I don’t inhale”, “I only drink one soda (sugar laden drinks) a day”,”‘I get drunk only on week-ends”, “The kids eat pepperoni pizza or sloppy joes only on Sundays - my 2 year old loves pepperoni!” What are we thinking?! Everything in moderation is what we’ve always been told - great advice of course!
Certainly, many more quotes could be provided above. But, using just the first one given - ‘…two packs of cigarettes per week’ - add up to many many thousands of cigarettes over time. Therefore, 1, 5, 10 … years worth of poison, absorbed by the organs and tissues of the body!
It’s all accumulative, whatever we put into our bodies will either provide nutritional benefits or potential harm. It is estimated that nation wide, on average, 1 person in one year consumes 84 lbs of sugar over and above what is considered as acceptable!! NO DOUBT similar statistics exist regarding salt, saturated fats, and chemicals used as flavor enhancers, preservatives, dyes, etc ……
The toxic chemicals not only in recreational stuff that we may consume, but also
in our food supply, air, & water, as well as the thousands of drugs that are prescribed to cure illnesses (well, we are warned though, of the many harmful side effects, even death!), have been absorbed and stored, causing gradual, on going damage.
The main question being asked more & more everyday is - “What do we do now?” Fortunately this question has also been asked by The First Lady, Michele Obama. It’s an Honor and Pleasure to include a brief acknowledgment of her work that she began a few months ago regarding Childhood Obesity. Yes, the current epidemics and how they effect our future, are very serious! Is, to do nothing, on a personal and national level, an option?? Of course NOT! There are creative solutions!

Campaign to Combat Childhood Obesity.
On February 9, 2010, First Lady Michelle Obama, announced at a White House ceremony, the launch of the 
‘Let’s Move!’ campaign to end childhood obesity in the United States, an epidemic she said is costly and a threat to national security. The First Lady stated that , “I have set a goal to solve the problem of childhood obesity within a generation… “ She states that ”Our kids did not do this to themselves… ” “Our kids don’t decide what’s served to them at school or whether there’s time for gym classes or recess.”
“Our kids don’t choose to make food products with tons of sugar and sodium in super-sized portions, and then to have those products marketed to them everywhere they turn.” The point she makes is very significant, saying that, ”Those extra pounds put kids at a greater risk of developing a host of debilitating and costly diseases, including type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.”
What an enormous task! It must be our great hope and our prayers, that she will receive the necessary cooperation greatly deserved from all of the government agencies and officials involved.
She makes a very direct and important statement to All Parents: “…. no matter how much they beg for pizza, fries and candy, ultimately, they are not, and should not, be the ones calling the shots at dinnertime” We must all work together to make this happen for the sake of the children. There are creative solutions!

I was amazed! 
Well although I always said “..not me”, a few years ago I began to experience ‘off ’n on’, discomfort in my right knee. As of a few months ago, I had no familiarity with over-the-counter remedies. But, when the knee pain became so severe, making it difficult to walk, a friend recommended a pharmaceutical for joint pain. After a few days of use, it began to provide some relief, but not always.
